Whatever the weather, Dutch people will be seen struggling on their bikes to reach their destination. In Amsterdam downtown you see more bikes than cars, not without reason! On your bike you can discover every narrow street in Amsterdam that would be virtually invisible on a car's radar. So pickup your bike, do some physical excercise while enjoying your ride!
When you visit Amsterdam, you basically have four options for traveling:
Public transportation can be useful, for reaching specific destinations, cabs are quite expensive and cars in general aren't very useful in the one-way narrow streets. The perfect solution are bikes, but me and you aren't the first one to come to that conclusion.

Amsterdam downtown is literally swamped with bikes, millions of them! This made the traffic situation quite bad, people on bikes usually ignore traffic lights and sometimes you may even find them cruising on the sidewalk. If you are going to explore the city on your bike, some prudence is required!
There are several ways to get a bike, one of which is to rent one. A less politically-correct way is to buy one on the street for about 10 euro. You must be aware that those sold bikes are usually stolen. You must also be aware that your own bike may be stolen, so you better get a good lock and use it.
New developments in the city have also lead to special bike-only roads, as you can also see on the picture on the left.
If you do decide to jump on a bike in Amsterdam, you should get a good citymap, you should try to ignore other people's bad manners when they are in their rush-hour and you should just enjoy the city's general atmosphere and feel the wind in your face while you are on your way to reach your destinations!
More information about renting a bike can be found at the Rent a Bike website
