The ever crowded Leidseplein, a citysquare and surrounding streets, full with atmosphere. In this area there are numerous bars, restaurants and yes, also coffeeshops, including some of the best in the city. If you want to go out in Amsterdam you shouldn't miss this part, actually it's almost impossible to miss it. It's a conjunction of all kinds of traffic, bringing everyone together, both in the weekends as during the week!
There is so much to see and do that one evening will probably not be enough. Throughout the day and evening streetperformers do their acts, usually for quite large audiences, while trolleys, cabs and bikes arrive and depart continiously, refreshing the population on the square every minute.

You will find cinemas, theaters, hotels, bars, coffeeshops, fastfood restaurants, other restaurants in many flavours, even a gym. For any audience. With some exceptions the target audience ranges from low to medium budget, for just a relaxed evening or for culturally or intellectually interesting evenings. From the discussions and debates in "De Balie", to smoking a joint in the Rokerij, or another venture. The best thing you can do is just visit this part of town and truely explore it, don't hesitate to visit places!
