As webmaster of this site, my goal is not just to provide you with as much information as possible. My goal is to provide you with a selection of information, which is as useful as possible while being compact. Some other sites use a niche-aproach, supplying you with literally tons of information about one specific subject. If you want to get a basic view on Amsterdam those sites are not always very useful, but if you are looking for specific information they are.
Public transportation - Amsterdam
The GVB is responsible for all transportation within Amsterdam. On their site you can find departure times and network-maps.

Public transportation - Netherlands
Unfortunately the best site used to find information about public transport is only available in Dutch. If you want to still try it, the website is http://www.9292ov.nl/.
The Dutch railways do have an English version. Here you can also find departure times and several links to ticket-services. Their website is http://www.ns.nl/, click on English on the right-top of the page for the English version.
Tourist guides
There are a few good tourist guides about Amsterdam (besides mine :p). The first one I will describe is part of Amsterdam's official project to promote tourism. Its slogan is 'I amsterdam' and their site's address is http://www.iamsterdam.com/. Besides the regular tourist information, you can also find information about doing business in Amsterdam and dates and addresses of events in the city.
Another tourist guide is http://www.amsterdam.info/, featuring a lot of information, including information about hotels and appartments.

Leisure and nightlife
As I described before, a dude that calls himself Lemming, has made a great guide about coffeeshops in Amsterdam. This guide basically covers anything you want to know about coffeeshops. The address is http://www.coffeeshop.freeuk.com/.
For information about going out in general, the internet magazine TimeOut offers great information about bars, restaurants, events, also for gay and lesbian visitors. The address is http://www.timeout.com/amsterdam/.
For more links check http://www.sociosite.net/amsterdam/uit.html.
Architecture and historical
For anything you want to know about historical Amsterdam, the city of Amsterdam runs an official website at http://www.bma.amsterdam.nl/adam/index_e.html. On this website you can find many pictures and details about the different historical architectural styles in Amsterdam.
For modern architecture check http://www.arcam.nl/index_uk.html, which also has a section about the future plans of the Amsterdam region.
Culture and museums
For a map of Amsterdam with about 35 museums, or a list of exhibitions, check http://www.amsterdammuseums.nl/. A nice looking website with a treasure of information. This website is maintained by a few official organizations promoting tourism in Amsterdam and its museums.
