Amsterdam is often associated with sex and drugs. Where else would you expect a Sex Museum than in Amsterdam? Right in the heart of downtown, not far from the Red Light District, a narrow, but prominent entrance welcomes you to the 'Venus Temple'. The Sex Museum covers different cultures and periods concerning their views on sex and pornography.

Sex is universal, all over the world and throughout history people have been, let's say, fascinated about sex. Like in our own western culture, there have been times sex didn't even seem to exist, or did it?

In the Amsterdam Sex Museum (Venus Temple), you will see innocent looking objects, secretly containing erotic imagery or 'sex toys', from times sex couldn't be openly discussed. But also sexual impressions by other cultures, some of which being much more openminded about it, like some branches of Hinduism which also created the works of Kama Sutra in the 4th century AD.

Maybe this museum will also open your eyes about today's perception of sex, since the discussions whether sex should be a part of romance, or if it can also exist on itself, as a product from lust, has still not ended.
